New York – A symbol of freedom

New York lies in the north-eastern corner of the U.S. in the state of the same name, and 20 million people call the city “home”, which makes it the biggest in the country. The population is partly due to the thousands of immigrants that have arrived there through time, in pursuit of new opportunities and freedom. The best way you can chase the same feeling as a tourist is by taking some of the amazing and beautiful boat rides, where the unsurpassed skyline of the city can be gazed upon. You can even rent a boat on your own and make your own route – now that is freedom! And what is the ultimate symbol of freedom? The Statue of Liberty rises 92 meters above the sea level on its own island, and was the first thing the immigrants saw at the entrance of their new lives. After this, they came ashore on the immigrant inspection station, Ellis Island. It is possible to go ashore on both islands, where you can come up into the crown of the giant statue and see the amazing view of the bay and New York, and on Ellis Island you can visit the Immigration Museum.

The five boroughs of New York

New York has five different boroughs. Some of them might sound familiar, especially Manhattan, which is home to all the famous places and landmarks such as the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Wall Street, Time Square and Central Park. The Bronx is a poor neighborhood, but is at the same time home to one of the country’s largest zoos and to the most famous baseball team, The Yankees. It is also the birthplace of hip hop music, which you will sense, if you give the Bronx a chance. Brooklyn is the most populous and diverse of the boroughs with the African American, the Jewish, the Italian and the Hispanic neighborhoods. Geographically, Queens is the largest of the boroughs, but is perhaps the least known, though it is spectacular. This is why you as a tourist can get a bit away from the touristy areas, if you visit this borough, which in general is a large, diverse neighborhood. Finally, there is the island borough Staten Island, which is the only one that is not connected to New York’s extensive subway system. However, it is easy and convenient to take the famous ferry to the island – it has an amazing view en route. Staten Island houses many museums such as the special Historic Richmond Town, which is a historical, well-preserved town.

From World Trade Center to One World Trade Center

Since 1971, the World Trade Center’s two gigantic Twin Towers have been a landmark of New York. Tragically, they were destroyed during the terror attack on September 11, 2001. Since then, the area has been known as Ground Zero, an enormous construction site, and has been the symbol of the New Yorkers’ indomitable morale. Recently, the construction of the city’s new landmark, One World Trade Center has been completed on the exact place where the Twin Towers used to be. The new building shoots 541 meters up in the air – 100 meters higher than the Twin Towers. The 541 meters is equivalent to exactly 1776 feet, which is a symbolic number for the Americans, because it is the year of the U.S.’s independence. The construction site will slowly be replaced with new skyscrapers, but also with museums and memorial parks in honor of the lives lost in the tragedy. The foundations of the Twin Towers have been preserved and converted into everlasting water memorials. The place is such a central part of the New Yorkers’, as well as the Americans’ sense of self-understanding that you all but owe it a visit.

Manhattan – where you are staying!

Manhattan is the world-famous district and the very soul of New York, so it is always here that USATours accommodates its travelers – unless you have other wishes of course. For many, a holiday to New York equals a holiday to Manhattan, because of all the famous tourist attractions that are located here: Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Wall Street, Time Square, Central Park, Broadway, Rockefeller Center and many, many more! Skyscrapers, lots of people, neon lights, yellow taxi cabs, shopping, charming neighborhoods, cultural diversity – you could go on describing Manhattan, but in the end, only a visit will suffice! Whether your end destination is Florida, California or somewhere else, it is recommended to combine it with a visit to New York and Manhattan, if you travel to the U.S.!

From Wall Street to The Village

When you travel to New York, you should set aside time to experience Manhattan and feel the atmosphere of the many different neighborhoods. You can visit Wall Street, the crown jewel of the U.S.’s mighty economy, which is located in the pulsating Financial District filled with skyscrapers. The Stock Exchange lies here and is the most influential one in the world, alongside the Trump Building, which is owned by the prince of finance and America’s president, Donald Trump. From the stressful surroundings with busy business people, you can go to Greenwich Village, which is a charming, more relaxed neighborhood with a European vibe. In Midtown, The Empire State Building towers up among all the avenues’ shopping possibilities. Manhattan is the center of the planet when it comes to diverse scenery, culture and atmosphere in urban surroundings!

Sports in American – unique and tremendous

If you like sports, New York offers everything as the biggest sports mecca in the U.S. with the most teams in the greatest leagues of all the cities! The city has two representatives of the most popular sport, American football, one of which is the Giants that have won the Super Bowl twice within the last five years. The Jets play at the same stadium, so there is ample of opportunity to experience this special sport. The New York Yankees are one of the world’s most famous baseball teams, and the New York Knicks are likewise in basketball. You can also experience the ice hockey teams New York Rangers and New York Islanders. It is a unique experience for sports enthusiasts to feel the atmosphere of a classic American sport in a gigantic arena – much different from what you have experienced anywhere else in the world.
