Itinerary
DAY 1 - 5: LOS ANGELES

Your California roundtrip starts in Los Angeles, where you have four nights. Los Angeles, the “City of the Stars,” is full of celebrities from all over the world, as well as people who hope to be. Here, the sun always shines, the streets are busy, and there is room for everything. Among other things, you can visit Hollywood, which is really a must now that you are here. If you wish to see where the real celebrities live, you can go on a dedicated tour – or drive around yourself and catch a glimpse of their huge mansions; you can also take a stroll down the Walk of Fame, where the names of the biggest celebrities from now and the past are engraved in the pavement. If you want more relaxation, then Venice Beach and Santa Monica are beautiful areas worth a visit. At Venice Beach, you will find happy, roller skating girls in pastel colored clothes, boys on skateboards and happy couples on bikes – exactly as you see in the movies. At Santa Monica Beach, you will find a unique and cozy atmosphere with an amusement park on the pier and happy children splashing in the water and eating ice cream.

Use a day to walk in the footsteps of the celebrities, visiting Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and driving down posh Rodeo Drive. Then, spend a day on the beaches, experience the unique atmosphere. Pop by Universal Studios Hollywood and feel the adrenaline rush through your body. You can also see many of the famous sets from the popular television series and movies that are produced in Hollywood. And don’t forget to visit The Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyland!

DAY 5 – 8: SAN DIEGO

(193 km/120 miles – a 2-hour drive)
Say goodbye to L.A. and spend the next three days further south in San Diego near the Mexican border. Here, you can visit LEGOLAND®, which is a fun amusement park just north of San Diego definitely worth a visit. San Diego is also home to the popular SeaWorld®, where you can experience the many stunning marine shows. If you like museums, then the world’s largest maritime museum, the USS Midway, is also located in San Diego. You will quickly notice that San Diego is a coastal city, which means that the atmosphere is also entirely different from that of the many other cities in California. Here, there is also gorgeous, sandy beaches, such as Mission Beach and Pacific Beach.

DAY 8 – 9: LAKE HAVASU CITY

(486 km/302 miles – a 5-hour drive)
Now it is time to drive further inland and see more of the West Coast’s beautiful scenery. The first stop is the world-famous Grand Canyon. Due to the long drive, we recommend a night in the pleasant Lake Havasu City. Originally, the city was a small, sleepy desert town, but this changed in the 1960’s when a business man bought the now legendary London Bridge – in London! The bridge was taken apart stone by stone in London, numbered, sailed all the way to the US and driven across the county, whereupon it was reassembled across the river at Lake Havasu City – a fun story and definitely worth a visit. The city is located in the state of Arizona, close to the Colorado River and near the Parker Dam, which connects California with Arizona. It forms a beautiful lake, where you can practice a number of different sports.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful and unique places in the U.S., with its amazing topography, which is a must-see.

Spend a day on horseback and experience the Grand Canyon in a different and exciting way. You can also go rafting in the canyon, where you will get a different view of the national park, explore the canyon on a hiking trip, or even fly with a helicopter and get an amazing and unforgettable view of the canyon. DAY 10 - 13: LAS VEGAS

(440 km/275 miles – a 4-hour-and-10-minute drive)
After a wealth of nature experiences, it is time to be wild and lavish, because you are going to Las Vegas. Here nothing is too big, too wild, or too unattainable for anyone. The place where dreams come true, where pocket change could become millions, and Elvis and Marilyn Monroe are still alive. In Vegas you have three days to explore the neon mecca and experience something which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Explore The Strip and visit Paris, Venice, and the Pyramid in just one day! Visit the casinos and experience the atmosphere there, and in the evening watch the magical and beautiful fountains which dance to opera music in front of Bellagio Hotel. Experience some of the endless nightlife of Las Vegas – musicals, concerts, magic shows. Everything your heart desires!

From Las Vegas, it is easy to drive to the Hoover Dam, where you can use half a day to experience the huge dam. Las Vegas is also a good place to update your wardrobe, as you will find many large malls and outlets, where you can find American brands at cheap prices.

DAY 13 - 14: DEATH VALLEY

(225 km/140 miles – a 2-hour-and-10-minute drive)

Your next stop on your California round trip is the lowest point in the US, which is found in the Death Valley National Park – a valley in the Mojave Dessert. The valley is especially known for its extremely hot weather, and it is also here the highest ever temperature in the world was recorded. In July of 1913, the thermometer showed 56.7 degrees Celsius at Furnace Creek in Death Valley.

The lowest point in Death Valley, called Badwater Basin, is 94 yards below sea level. The place got its name because the small amount of water found there cannot be drunk due to its high salinity. In Death Valley National Park, you will experience sights such as Devil’s Golf Course, Dante’s View, Zabriskie Point and other breathtaking viewpoints. In the valley, you will experience quiet, amazing, and completely barren scenery, which will definitely make you understand why the valley is called Death Valley.

DAY 14 - 16: YOSEMITE

(372 km/231 miles – a 4-hour-and-30-minute drive)
Today you are off to another stunning national park. With two days in Yosemite National Park, you will have plenty of opportunities to experience the lovely scenery the famous park has to offer. It is without question one of the most beautiful parks in the U.S., and that is saying a lot! With over 4,000 different plant and animal species, there is plenty to discover. There are waterfalls, rivers, mountains, rough granite cliffs, woods, barren areas – and much, much more. It is impossible not to be enriched with experiences during your two-day-stay at Yosemite National Park.

DAY 16 - 19: SAN FRANCISCO

(300 km/187 miles – a 4-hour drive)
After having seen the wonders of Californias national parks, it is time to drive to the Pacific Coast and the city of San Francisco, where you will be spending three days. The city is very different from other major cities in California. San Francisco has a unique atmosphere which is hard to describe but has to be experienced to understand. The hilly streets, the well-known cable cars, the much-spoken-of San Francisco fog that often dominates the mornings, and of course the red suspension bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, which is the most famous landmark of the city, maybe even the U.S.

Go to the prison island, Alcatraz, where legend has it that only three people managed to escape – though they were never found alive – and enjoy an audio tour of the penitentiary, where you will visit the prison cells, the canteen and much more. Use some time exploring neighborhoods such as the Castro District, a LGBT neighborhood, where the rainbow-colored flag can be found everywhere. Height-Ashbury is the neighborhood where the hippy movement originated in the 1960s, and when you visit today the laid-back vibe is still there. Visit Fisherman’s Wharf and eat some clam chowder in Boudin’s famous sourdough bread bowl – it tastes heavenly. Then experience Pier 39, where all the sea lions lie and sunbathe. Chinatown is also worth a visit, because it is inhabited by the highest number of Chinese people living outside of China, which is why it is also one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. Here, you can find good, Chinese specialties such as snake heads and Chinese herbs, and a special atmosphere.

If you are thirsty for or interested in wine, you can also take a short trip north to Napa Valley, which is a wine mecca like no other. Here, you can go visit the vineyards, see how the wine is made, and of course attend both lectures and wine tastings.

(200 km/120 miles – a 2-hour drive)
Now, the tour goes south on the picturesque Highway 1 to Monterey. You will definitely be making some stops on this beautiful US highway – simply to have a look and take some pictures. If you get hungry along the way, stop in Davenport for some delicious lunch with a view at Whale City Bakery Bar & Grill. On the way to Monterey, you will pass Big Basin Redwood State Park, where you can stop and go for a hike, or simply step out of your car and look up on the world’s tallest trees. The redwoods are sure to take your breath away.

Monterey is a friendly port town, where you should visit the popular Monterey Bay Aquarium or go whale watching on the Pacific Ocean. The trip usually takes around 3 hours, and offers plenty of opportunities to watch different types of whales depending on the season. Finish your day off with dinner at the very first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant! Answer Forest Gump trivia while you wait for your food.
